Custom Panel Tow Rig
This truck starts with a 1962-67 panel body -- I cleaned up some lines while respecting the form. These are big trucks with lots of “hat sections” or three-dimensional forms to help its visual proportions. I gave it a modern edge by channeling it a couple inches below the undercut. The roof also loses two-inches of chop. The rear gets diagonally sectioned and raked forward six-inches.
Existing hood is augmented by a recessed cowl with body color popped in. The bumper is a large aerodynamic form that helps channel air into the simplified grill. Deeply inset in the grill is stainless Cadillac CTSV mesh.
To keep the truck current and focused on the form --- I avoided graphics in the paint. The side stainless trim is from a 1960 full-sized Oldsmobile and recessed into the body. This would compliment the lines of any long-bed, panel or suburban. The paint scheme is a satin black or buffed primer with a stripe of '65 metallic artesian turquoise that keeps it rooted in the period and creates an interesting contrast.
The Custom Panel would be perfect to pull my “Pikes Peak Super Truck.” In the set of sketches, I thought it would be fun to make a Pikes Peak/Land Speed Record companion truck of the same '62-'67 vintage. All sketches attempt to keep some type of signature body characteristic Power plants range from a hopped up GMC V-12 to turbo diesels. |
